Everything about the build and playability of this set is fantastic. You need to accept that it will not let you actually play individual notes by pressing given keys, nor that these keys will move up and down in accordance with the actual music played through the bluetooth connected app. The keyboard and mechanism is essentially for show.
But knowing how a piano works as I do, the modelling of the way a real piano’s keyboard action works is a very faithful Lego representation. Along with the sustaining (“loud”) pedal, the stool, music stand, lid and sturdy legs, it’s all very accurately modelled. Well designed, and great fun to build.
The only gripe is that when the reset function is used, the keys don’t really go back to being all neatly lined up. This is because the grey stop lever (fitted at step 244) is too short to stop the orange cam (fitted at step 81) from travelling a bit beyond top dead centre (as car engine mechanics would call it). Instead, the cam goes a bit too far, leaving the keys a little bit “actuated” in one direction or another. If anyone knows a cure for this, I’d be interested. We stuck several layers of sticky tape on the end of the stop lever to make it effectively a bit longer – which worked, but that’s hardly right for such an elegant piece of machinery!

Hat’s off to the fan builder who designed this ideas set. It’s a total replica of a piano. It is an enjoyable build, using various build techniques. The fact it has a functional aspect is great. Great value as they include all the powered up functions, which cost a lot if bought separately. Being able to use the power functions to have the piano play is great fun. It all looks sleek and shiny just like a real grand piano. Love that the seat is adjustable too. I got it at £60 off rrp, but would still have been happy to pay rrp for what it is.

I bought this for my brother for his 40th and the look on his face was priceless. As a man that doesn’t wear jewellery, it was very difficult to find something ‘special’ for the big 4 OH. Well, Lego is the answer.
He sent me photos of the finished product and it looks AMAZING! If only I was the younger brother and still had the big 40th coming up. Then he could return the favour

Loved assembling this piece. It was loads of fun and kept me occupied for a few evenings over the Christmas holidays. A lovely gift to myself.
I do have to say it’s a bit bigger than I expected. Which was both nice when assembling it and a bit of pain when it came to where to put it after was done. But hey, if you like Lego you deal with it.

I found this was a great model to build, It has 3662 pieces and over three days I completed it. I think Lego pulled a fast one in the promotion video making you think this a working playing piano model. The keys move via an app ( bluetooth connection) you can hear music to the keys moving from your phone or tablet. Do not get me wrong this is a GREAT looking model and the wife just loves it to bits , It is a statement piece. When building this model it is best to sort the Lego parts into their own groups so it make it a lot easier and quicker to assemble, you will find you might have one or two pieces left over I think someone at lego has a funny sense of humour as when I completed the first part I had two bits left over so I went back over the unit checking every part to the guide book only to find they were extras. I enjoyed the Build and the look.
