Lego has developed so much since I first played with it as a youngster in the early 60s. The, it was boxes of basic building bricks, albeit different in colour and shape. This Disney Cinderella Princess set is amazing. There’s colour, a prebuilt castle and characters. So in addition to learning the build skills associated with Lego bricks, there’s the real opportunity to engage in storytelling about the playset.

I like any activity which encourages children to chat or make up stories based on what they’re doing. Electronic based ‘games’ don’t always fulfil this type of engagement. I’ve watched a couple of youngsters unpack this and another (glamping) Lego playset. It’s been fascinating to see how they chattered happily to make the two different sets into a story they enjoyed. And when it was time to finish, they seemed to be looking forward to playing with the set again.

I believe there’s an associated App, but I haven’t downloaded this as it doesn’t seem necessary. The characters are cute and, as expected with the brand, the quality is excellent. Should last for years.

Lego is and always has been one of my favourite toys since I was a kid myself and is one of my always ‘go to’ toys as a present for the kids in the family. Over the years Lego has evolved in many ways from the basic sets we used to have when I was a kid, not always in a perfect way, but this set is ideal for the market it is targetted at.

One of the things Lego has done in recent years is to introduce sets aimed at girls as well as the more traditional sets which were primarily aimed at boys. This one will prove exceptionally successful if my young neice’s response was anything to go by when she was building/playing with it.

Aimed directly at young girls (age 4+) it is designed in such a way to offer the usual Lego building experience, but with a starter ‘boost’ in the form of some special starter bricks that kick-start the build. In this set the base, two tower fronts and the gateway are formed out of just 4 bricks. This gives something recognisable for the remainder of the set to be built around. In addition to these ‘starter’ bricks you also get the usual type of structural bricks as well as some characters in the form of Cinderella, a few of her animal friends and various accessories. So once the main structure is built there are still plenty of things for the little one to play with.

To help the young one build the set as well as the usual comprehensive instruction booklet supplied you can also download a feee ‘Lego Life App’ which expands on the instructions with the ability to zoom and rotate around the design on screen making it even more realistic for the young child and easier to understand the build instructions.

Due to the starter bricks this set is probably not suitable for much older children as it will build too quickly for them, but as an introduction to the world of Lego it is perfect for the age range it is targetted at. Yet another generation therefore will grow up to love the world of Lego helping to nurture their imagination, building and play skills. So much better than just virtual apps on a tablet or phone 🙂

LEGO 43178 Disney Princess’s Castle Celebration Set – Cinderella

A simple to build set for young girls – they advise 4+ and I think that is a fair starting point. Much more than (say) 6 and it will be built too quickly. I say that because this is an ideal starter kit for little hands to cope with and since part of the fun is the satisfaction of building such an item from it’s parts.

This is a simple representation of Cinderella’s Castle…not the big one as used as a centre piece to Disney World, that’s a different item all together. This has a three turret frontage to the castle that builds easily on the base plus there is a separate “garden gazebo” (where tea is served) and a small model of Cinderella and her pets. The Prince is absent, probably away doing something else.

The reverse of the castle frontage houses a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen on two floors so there is plenty of scope for play.

It’s a nice colourful set without anything overly complicated in the building. My only reservation is whether there is enough to hold the attention of a young child but that depends on their imagination.

There are other sets available for each of the other Disney Princesses..one for Ariel, Aurora and Tiana, one for Moana, one for Jasmine, another for Rapunzel and of course one for Sleeping Beauty. Each one is different with some aimed at slightly older girls with what looks like more challenging constructions.

As the child grows older, this simple starter kit does not become redundant as it can be easily integrated with other sets…it’s just the imagination that limits scope.

Finished size of the castle frontage stands approximately 16 cm x 17 cm. Instructions are good and typical of Lego.

    A nice place to start.

The set is a nice little version of Cinderella’s castle. It’s a nice size and the detail and overall end product looks great and is a fun set to play with.
I would dispute the age recommendations for a 4yo there are still very small pieces in the set and even with clear instructions would need adult supervision, from 6-7 upwards would be a better age range in my opinion. Having said that it is a good introduction set to get kids into the building side of things if it’s something they enjoy.

I bought this for my daughter’s sixth birthday because she put it into her Amazon Wish List.
It has the typical Lego quality with lovely colours. She was really delighted with it. My eight-year-old daughter put it together for her sister in under ten minutes so it’s easy for younger children to assemble.

Overall, I am glad I purchased this.
    Thanks,
    E F
