This set has great playability with lots going on in the very fire prone sardine factory. Our favourite bit has to be the container which pokes out a flame to be shot down by the fire truck. Along with that the main sardine factory has flames in the windows which can be put out by the fire engines water shooter and then “reignited” by twisting the sardine sign on the roof. As well as all those flames you also have the secret sauce cylinder which shoots out green goo whilst a mini figure in a hazmat suit is trying to mop it all up, and makes me wonder what is in the secret sauce?
I said there was a lot going on and we haven’t even got to the vehicles yet! The fire engine is pretty impressive and comes with a ladder along with a trailer which has its own little water shooter. The fast response car and bike are also nice additions and were the bits that our son (aged four) managed to build by himself using the instruction plus on the Lego instructions app. These are great by the way and if you have a younger builder in your home, defiantly worth checking out as they keep young minds focused on just the bit of the build you are doing as well as having a rotatable 3D model highlighting the bits you need to put on.
All in all its a pretty impressive set with an impressive price tag, but we all know lego is not cheap and you get a good amount of playability in this set. It will look great in any Lego City scape and is meant to be buddied up with set 60320 which is a fire station with another fire truck and helicopter. Although this is the bigger fire truck of the two.

This LEGO City Fire Brigade set is a good companion to the Fire Station. The fire engine is another set that reminds me of some of the better sets from the 80s in that it’s really well detailed with a touch of fun features. While the Station had interlinking road sections included this has ramps, but that makes more sense to be able to get the fire engine up to the building front.
Build time for this (me and my 16yo) was 20 minutes roughly and instructions were clear with items being seperated logically into several bags.
I love the firing action of the water from the top of the fire engine. The fire in the windows could be a little more realistic if they used more opaque clear lego coloured a brighter yellow but sticking a light source behind it works to make it look a little better.
I’m very impressed with these new style City sets, they’re good quality (as you’d expect from Lego, I guess) and made with thought and care for detail.

This is a really well thought through set with a lot of play value once built. It comes with 5 Firefighter minifigures, 1 hazmat minifigure, 1 child minifigure and a cat with 2 kittens. Certainly more than enough Lego people to populate your firefighting scenarios. It’s always a bonus when there are multiple figures as it really flashes your scenes out and gives you a lot of options when playing.
There are also 3 vehicles. A fire response car which is a small but really fun build. A fire response motorcycle and then a huge fire truck and trailer. The fire truck has a turntable on the back with a ladder attached and this has a firing mechanism at the top to shoot out the “water” which works really well. Caution though it does come out at some speed so be careful using it and it comes with a spare as you are bound to lose one of them.
The building itself has three storeys, the top 2 have chunky flames in the windows that rotate so when you hit them with the water they rotate back into the building so the fire appears to be put out. The Sardine Tin sign on the top of the building can be used to easily swivel the flames back in to the windows and has a really simple mechanism that is very effective. The little details on the can are great and I love the little key, really makes it look like an old fashioned sardine can but I’m not sure younger builders would necessarily understand that little detail but it made this oldie happy.
The secret sauce tower has a small push mechanism at the base to shoot sauce out – which is a strange green colour. The storage container has a similar mechanism but this pushes flames out of the doors.
There is a LOT going on in this set and with the 2 included road plates it is really simple to link this in to other Lego City sets and make a street scene of your own devising.
